Portugal and North Macedonia support the UN efforts to find an everlasting political settlement to the Sahara issue

On the occasion of his official visits to Skopje, North Macedonia, and Lisbon, Portugal, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, had meetings, successively on 21 and 22 July 2025, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of North Macedonia, Timčo Mucunski, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Paulo Rangel, to explore best ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
On such an occasion, North Macedonia reaffirmed its longstanding support to the UN process aimed at reaching a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution for the parties to the issue of the Sahara.

Portugal expressed its full support to the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the most serious, credible and constructive basis to settle the Sahara dispute.

Portugal recognizes the importance of this issue, as well as the serious and credible efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Morocco within the framework of the United Nations to achieve a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution.
The Portuguese and the North Macedonian stances come to join the constructive international momentum to find an everlasting settlement to the Sahara dispute through the Moroccan Initiative of the Autonomy Plan.
